STUDYING IN THE NETHERLANDS

NUMBER OF UNIVERSITIES AND STUDENTS 
  • 13 research universities and 50 universities of applied science.

  • Subjects that attract international students are: economics, engineering, human sciences.

  • 282 Bachelor's degree programmes and over 50% of the Master's programme are in English.

  • Approximately 700 000 students including 90 000 international students (figures provided by EP-Nuffic in 2018-2019)

QUALIFICATIONS OBTAINED
  • At the research universities: Bachelor's degree in 3 years and Master's degree in 1 or 2 years.

  • At the universities of applied science: Bachelor's degree in 4 years and Master's degree in 1 or 2 years.

ADMISSION PROCEDURES
  • Selective admission.

ADMISSION CRITERIA
  • School reports and, depending on the institution, a written reference and motivation letter.

  • It should be noted that the student must make satisfactory progress during the first year. 

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION
  • via a single online portal "Studielink"  for many institutions, or directly via the institution's website.  

REQUIRED LEVEL OF PROFICIENCY IN ENGLISH
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) ou TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language).

TUITION FEES
  • Since higher education institutions can be "subsidised", "accredited" or "private", tuition fees vary.  

  • For EU citizens, between  2,000€ and 20,000€ a year depending on the country of origin (2020 figures).

  • there are many sources of financial support to fund studies.
